The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival’s 31st celebration will include Ambassadors Lily-Rose Day (Fifth grader at Island View Elementary in Anacortes) and Sean Cowan (Fourth grader at Immaculate Conception Regional School in Mount Vernon) helping share the news and fun of the Festival.
Sean and Lily-Rose were selected from a pool of 82 participants from throughout Skagit County by five judges, each of whom is a member of the Festival’s Board of Directors. Staff from KeyBank, the sponsors for the event, served as Mistresses of Ceremonies and provided several volunteers to help keep the event running smoothly.
Each contestant was asked a standard “Why do you want to be the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival Ambassador” and a surprise question. When asked her surprise question of “which super power would you like and why,” Lily-Rose replied “telekinesis.” It would make it easier to help with chores when her parents asked her to do so!
Appearances on local radio shows, participation in area parades, a visit to Olympia to meet with Governor Inslee and other officials, and more await the fortunate pair.
Thanks to KeyBank for their support, Cascade Mall for being great hosts, and to each of the children who participated. It was a great event…thanks, too, to all who attended!
