2017 Tulip Festival Poster Artist announced

MOUNT VERNON – Bellingham artist Trish Harding’s poster art captures her love of the vista Skagit Valley offers each spring when the tulips turn the valley into a sea of saturated color. Fans will get their first peek at the poster unveiling at Skagit Valley Gardens in November.

“Through the eye and heart of an artist, the palette of a painter, and a unique perspective, my image will be fresh and surprising,” commented Harding. “It will instill in visitors the desire to take a piece of the Tulip Festival home with them to remind them of how their lives have been changed forever, while looking forward to returning.”

Harding was selected to be the 2017 poster artist after a region-wide competition held in August 2015. Creating works of art that depict Pacific Northwest themes is evident in the 75+ solo and group shows Harding has done over the past decade. In addition, her work has won numerous awards including the Mayor’s Arts Award for her school and studio in Bellingham.

She also teaches, both at Whatcom Community College and in Portland with Creative Arts Community classes. Harding is a past president of the Northwest Pastel Society. Examples of her work can be seen at .

“Trish’s work captures the valley,” noted Skagit Valley Tulip Festival Executive Director Cindy Verge. “She described our valley as a place made for bicycle riding, a place of big skies, a perfect home for birds, and simply put, a bedeviling blueprint for wonder. Her painting embraces that vision.”

Heritage Bank will sponsor the unveiling event, which will once again feature the Taste of Skagit with area restaurants offering tasty tidbits to the 250+ attendees each year.

Jody Bergsma of Bergsma Galleriesy will work with Harding to transform her artwork into the Tulip Festival poster. Bergsma will also design the Tulip Festival Official Apparel (to be unveiled on Nov. 15 at Skagit Valley Gardens) using a theme relating to the poster art.
